Diagnosis Of Vaginal Sores
- A detailed pelvic exam will be undertaken by your physician to closely examine the nature of the vaginal sores.
- Further testing such as bloodwork, cultures from discharge, and specific STD testing can be advised by your physician.
- Once the cause of genital sores is ascertained, specific and targeted treatment can be administered to address the underlying reason for the blisters and sores.
- Your doctor might also require a detailed medical, surgical, family, menstrual and sexual history to help identify the exact cause of the vaginal sores.
Key Points About Diaper Dermatitis
- Diaper dermatitis is inflammation of the skin under a diaper.
- It is most often because of irritation from urine and feces.
- Different types of diaper dermatitis have different symptoms. When irritated from urine and feces, the skin is usually red in color.
- Treatment includes diaper-free periods, cream, and ointment.
- It is important to keep the diaper area clean and dry, change diapers often, and avoid irritants such as soap or scented wipes.
It’s Probably: An Allergic Reaction
Unlike a heat rash , other rashes are sparked by allergic reactions, like contact dermatitis . This itchy rash is caused by direct contact with a substance that you’re allergic to. The body has an immune response that can cause discomfort and intense itching, explains Sumayah Jamal, MD, the director of the Skin of Color Specialty Clinic at Schweiger Dermatology Group in New York City.
Irritant rashes are often itchy and they hurt like crazy, Dr. Friedman says. The bumps will appear raised and tend to be a darker pink to red color on light skin and hyperpigmented on dark skin. Rashes caused by an allergic reaction are often more swollen, pink in light skin or hyperpigmented in dark skin, and maybe even watery.
The first step is to identify what’s causing your reaction. If you can avoid it, contact dermatitis usually clears up in two to four weeks on its own. While you’re waiting for it to go away, you can try using an anti-itch cream and a cool compress. Dr. Jamal also recommends antihistamines, oral steroids, or topical steroids.
Head to your doctor’s office if you’re unsure of what you’re dealing with so they can provide the proper treatment or medication.

How Do People Get Ringworm
Besides spreading from person to person, ringworm can come from pets or other animals . It thrives in warm, moist environments such as public showers, locker rooms, or pool areas. It can spread easily when people are in close physical contact. That’s why it’s common in people who play contact sports such as wrestling. It can also be passed on objects like combs, brushes, hats, towels, or clothing.
Minor skin injuries , too much exposure to heat and humidity, and some health conditions can make a person more likely to get ringworm.
Do Yeast Infection Sores Pictures Tell The Whole Story

During our many years of practice, we have worked with thousands of different cases of yeast infections. Many of these cases included severe complications of yeast infection on skin and genitals. In a very small percentage of these cases, yeast infection sores or yeast infection blisters were present.
Before you spend your time looking at different yeast infection sores pictures and comparing them with your sores or blisters, heres something to consider. Yeast infection sores and yeast infection blisters can look like sores or blisters caused by other conditions. Your sores or blisters may look alike or may be different than what is shown in the pictures. This can be very confusing. Do not base your decision to treat your sores or blisters based on pictures.
A better way to tell if you have yeast infection sores or blisters is by identifying the other yeast infection symptoms that are usually present in the majority of the cases. Well cover these in the next section.
As a general guideline, considering that yeast infection sores and blisters are not common, we highly recommend that you get checked by a medical professional. For your health and also for your peace of mind.

How To Tell If Its A Yeast Infection Or Herpes
Vaginal yeast infections are very common up to 75 percent of women will experience this fungal infection in their lifetime, and many will have more than one, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Most vaginal yeast infections are caused by the fungus candida albicans. The naturally contains a balanced mix of yeast, which includes candida, and bacteria. But an overgrowth of candida or penetration of the fungus into deeper vaginal cell layers can cause a yeast infection, notes the Mayo Clinic.
Symptoms of a yeast infection include:
- A burning sensation, particularly during intercourse or urination
- Redness and swelling of the vulva
- Thick, white, odorless vaginal discharge that looks like cottage cheese
- Watery vaginal discharge
While a vaginal yeast infection isnt considered a sexually transmitted infection and is not contagious, there is an increased risk of getting a vaginal yeast infection when you first start having regular sex. Sexual contact can sometimes cause a yeast infection, if you have a bad reaction to another persons natural genital yeast and bacteria, according to Planned Parenthood. Infections may also be linked to oral sex, notes the Mayo Clinic.
Antibiotics, pregnancy, diabetes, an impaired immune system, certain oral contraceptives, and hormone therapy can also cause an overgrowth of fungus, which can lead to a yeast infection.
What Causes Antibiotic Resistance
Most resistance to antibiotics develops from taking them improperly. Examples are:
- Incomplete use: Not finishing the entire antibiotic prescription .
- Inappropriate use: Taking antibiotics for a viral infection .
- Unnecessary use: Taking antibiotics “just in case” .
It is important to take prescription medication only when prescribed for you by a health professional and to take all the medicine even if you feel better before you have completed the prescription.

Sores & Blisters Definition
Sores and blisters are different types of skin lesions. We get many questions about the actual terminology and definition. When it comes to skin lesions, it is always best to get checked by a medical professional. With that said, here is a brief sores & blisters definition taken from the medical literature :
- Blister, also known as vesicle: a sharply demarcated, elevated, fluid-containing lesion of the skin, usually less than 6 mm in diameter.
- Sore, also known as ulcer: the loss of the entire outer layer of the skin . Often heal with scar formation.
How Serious Is Mrsa
Although health care providers can treat most MRSA skin infections in their offices, MRSA can be very serious and even cause death. MRSA can cause pneumonia or severe infections of the blood, bones, surgical wounds, heart valves, and lungs. MRSA can be fatal if not identified and treated with effective antibiotics.

What Causes Diaper Dermatitis
In most cases, diaper dermatitis is a type of contact dermatitis. That means the skin is inflamed from contact with certain substances. In diaper dermatitis, urine and feces irritate the skin.
Other common causes of diaper dermatitis include:
- Candida. This is a yeast infection in the diaper area. Candida infection may occur if contact dermatitis is not treated within a few days.
- Seborrhea. This is a common, long-term skin condition. The cause of seborrhea is not known. It usually affects the diaper area and other parts of the body.
Other less common causes of dermatitis in the diaper area include:
- Bacteria. Staph or strep bacteria can cause it.
- Allergies. It can be caused by an allergic reaction to dye in disposable diapers, or detergent used to wash cloth diapers.

It’s Probably: Lichen Sclerosis
This one involves the perianal area. It’s thought to be an autoimmune disease where the immune system is attacking the skin, thinning its top layer and thickening the bottom part where your hair follicles and sweat glands are, according to Dr. Friedman.
“This condition is exquisitely itchy,” he says. It’s usually treated aggressively with steroids. And if left untreated, the disease can easily turn into squamous cell carcinoma, another type of skin cancer.
A biopsy is needed to diagnosis this disease, so if you’re starting to see a similar rash appear, give your doc a call ASAP.

How To Know If Its Gonorrhea Or Genital Herpes
Gonorrhea is a bacterial STI that can affect the genitals, rectum, and throat, according to the CDC. The infection is very common, especially among young people ages 15 to 24 years old.
Most women with gonorrhea don’t have any symptoms, and if they do, they are often mild and can be mistaken for a bladder or vaginal infection, per the CDC. Symptoms of gonorrhea in women may include:
- Pain or a burning sensation when urinating
- Increased vaginal discharge
Symptoms of gonorrhea in men may include:
- A burning sensation when urinating
- Less commonly, painful or swollen testicles
Rectal infections in men and women may cause no symptoms or cause symptoms including:
- Painful bowel movements
In women, untreated gonorrhea can cause PID, notes the CDC. In men, gonorrhea can cause a painful condition in the tubes attached to the testicles and in rare cases, lead to infertility.
Untreated gonorrhea can also spread to your blood or joints, which can be life-threatening, but this is also rare. Having untreated gonorrhea may also increase your chances of getting or giving HIV.
Healthcare providers typically collect a urine sample to diagnose gonorrhea. Your provider may also use swabs to collect samples from your throat and/or rectum.
Treatment with antibiotics can cure gonorrhea, but drug-resistant strains of the infection are on the rise. You should return to your healthcare provider if your symptoms continue for more than a few days after you receive treatment.

Yeast Infection Or Genital Herpes
While blisters or sores arent very common symptoms of a yeast infection, theyre extremely common symptoms of genital herpes.
If youre experiencing white, thick discharge along with the sores, a genital yeast infection is more likely than genital herpes.
Yeast sores can appear on your face, armpit, genitals, nipples, or in any skin areas that could foster yeast growth. If you have sores appearing in areas other than the genital or mouth area, these sores are most likely not caused by herpes.
Genital herpes symptoms can include:
- flu-like symptoms
- smelly discharge
If you believe you may have genital herpes, you should make an appointment with your doctor and refrain from unprotected sexual contact until youre sure of your diagnosis.
It’s Probably: A Yeast Infection
Most people consider yeast infections strictly vaginal. But they can also affect skin folds on the body .
What people don’t understand is that yeast is not the problem itself. “We have yeast everywhere, as it’s part of our microbiome,” Dr. Friedman says. What’s actually happening is that people are experiencing intertrigo or irritant dermatitis, inflammation of the skin in skin folds caused by poor hygiene and friction. Yeast may overgrow in the inflamed area, leading to infection.
Watch for itchiness on your butt, closer to your perianal area. You might see satellite pustules, or small pus-filled bumps situated slightly away from the main rash area.
As far as treatment goes, OTC ointments or creams for yeast infections should do the trick.

Other Types Of Baby Rashes:
Your babys rash may be something other than diaper rash, such as a yeast infection, psoriasis or impetigo.
Yeast infection
A yeast infection commonly appears in the skin folds where it is warm and moist. Other common names are a fungal infection or Candida albicans. It usually presents as a swollen red rash with white scales and lesions. They may also appear as small white pus-filled lesions surrounded by redness. In addition to the skin folds, lesions may be found on nearby skin outside the diaper area, such as the thighs or abdomen. These are called satellite lesions, and are usually a common sign of the yeast infection.
- The yeast infection may appear alone or it may be in combination with the diaper rash, making the rash worse.
- Be sure to call your pediatrician if your baby is showing any of these symptoms, the rash does not heal within 7 days, or heals and then reappears. Your doctor will be able to prescribe the best treatment plan for the yeast infection.
- Prevention is the best way to care for a yeast infection. Keeping the diaper area clean, dry and protected helps prevent both diaper rash and yeast infections.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is rare in infants. It presents as red thickened skin with silvery scales that may be itchy or sore and appears on the legs, arms or scalp.
Impetigo
Impetigo appears as yellow brownish crusty patches and/or pus-filled blisters. It is found on the buttocks, lower abdomen and thighs.
