    Summary

Many people ask what causes high yeast levels in the body? There are a variety of factors that can cause yeast infection. People with diabetes are even more susceptible because combining these variables with even slightly high blood sugar levels creates a comfortable environment for yeast overgrowth.

  • High Blood Sugar Levels: Not all high blood sugar levels will cause a yeast infection, but how often and for how long your blood sugar exceeds 250 mg / dL will make yeast grow more efficiently. Yeast infection is also a common early sign of undiagnosed diabetes. If your blood sugar levels do not drop to safer levels, you will likely develop yeast infections.
  • Certain Diabetes Medications: Read on to learn more about which diabetes medications can cause yeast infections and what you can do about it.
  • Antibiotics: Especially for people with diabetes, watch out for the first signs of yeast infection when taking antibiotics. The earlier you detect it, the faster you can treat it and prevent the disease from getting worse. But keep taking your antibiotics as directed by your doctor!
  • Severe stress: Severe stress causes many aspects of our overall health to change. This can also alter the vaginal health environment, especially when pressure is combined with other causes.
  • Using Farxiga For Treating Type 2 Diabetes

The FDA has approved Farxiga to treat type 2 diabetes in adults. For this condition, doctors prescribe Farxiga in combination with diet and exercise to help manage blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes is a condition that leads to high blood sugar.

Your bodys cells use blood sugar as their main source of energy. To do this, your pancreas releases a hormone called insulin, which helps move sugar from your blood into your cells.

With type 2 diabetes, your body doesnt use insulin properly. Over time, this can cause a high level of blood sugar. And having high blood sugar levels over a long period can lead to serious problems. These include kidney disease and heart disease.

Symptoms of type 2 diabetes include:

    • increased hunger or thirst

    Farxigas limitations of use

The manufacturer of Farxiga has noted some limitations of the drugs use. These are situations in which treatment with the drug may not be recommended.

Doctors arent likely to prescribe Farxiga to treat type 1 diabetes. Doing so could increase the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis in people with this condition.

In addition, doctors likely wont prescribe Farxiga to treat type 2 diabetes in people with moderate to severe kidney problems.

    How Does Farxiga Work

Farxigas mechanism of action is to make your kidneys filter more sugar, sodium, and water from your blood and into your urine. These substances then pass out of your body when you urinate.

In this way, Farxiga helps with the following:

    • In people with type 2 diabetes, it improves blood sugar levels by helping your body get rid of excess sugar.
    • In people at risk of being hospitalized for heart failure, Farxiga reduces this risk by helping your body get rid of excess sodium and fluid. This lowers your blood pressure, making it easier for your heart to pump blood throughout your body.
    • In people with heart failure, Farxiga helps reduce symptoms caused by a buildup of fluid in your body. These symptoms include:
  • In people with heart failure or kidney disease, Farxiga lowers the risk of death from a cardiovascular problem by reducing the strain on your heart and blood vessels.
  • In people with kidney disease, Farxiga helps prevent worsening kidney damage by lowering your blood pressure and the pressure in your kidneys.

    Alcohol Use And Farxiga

You should limit your alcohol consumption during Farxiga treatment. This is because alcohol may raise your blood sugar. If you have diabetes, this can cause your condition to worsen.

In addition, Farxiga can cause a condition called diabetic ketoacidosis. This may also occur from drinking too much alcohol. So you may have a higher risk for developing ketoacidosis if you drink alcohol while taking Farxiga.

If you drink alcohol, talk with your doctor about how much is safe for you to drink during Farxiga treatment.

If You Take Farxiga To Help Prevent Problems From Heart Failure Are The Side Effects Different Compared With Taking The Drug To Treat Type 2 Diabetes

How to Treat a Yeast Infection

The possible side effects of Farxiga are very similar regardless of the condition youre taking the drug to treat. In studies, there were no major differences in side effects reported by people taking Farxiga for type 2 diabetes, heart failure, or chronic kidney disease.

But its possible that you may have a higher risk for certain side effects if you take Farxiga for heart failure. For example, if youre also taking a diuretic medication such as furosemide , this could increase your risk for dehydration .

Your doctor will monitor you for side effects throughout Farxiga treatment. They can also tell you the side effects to watch for based on your condition and your other medications.

    What Is Jardiance Used For

Jardiance is a prescription drug used to help control glucose in adult patients with type 2 diabetes. Jardiance is also approved by the FDA to lower the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with heart disease and type 2 diabetes. It is also approved to reduce the risk of death and hospitalization in patients with heart failure.

Jardiance is given as an oral tablet once daily and is used in addition to diet and exercise. It can be added to other medicines for type 2 diabetes such as metformin, sulfonylureas, pioglitazone, and insulin as well as other heart medications like statins, beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, and diuretics. Jardiance, classified as an SGLT-2 inhibitor, is made by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly.

SGLT-2 inhibitors have been shown to be effective at lowering hemoglobin A1c levels, improving weight loss and lowering blood pressure in type 2 diabetes. They carry a low risk of hypoglycemia when used alone .

SGLT-2 inhibitors come as single-ingredient products or combined with other diabetes medicines. Other single-ingredient FDA approved medications in the SGLT-2 inhibitor class include:

Common Farxiga side effects | UTI | Yeast infections | Serious side effects | Kidney injury | Orthostatic hypotension | How long do side effects last? | Warnings | Interactions | How to avoid side effects

A brand-name diabetes medication with a novel mechanism, Farxiga has unique benefits and side effects that are important to understand. Farxiga is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor, a drug class that lowers high blood sugar levels by promoting the elimination of glucose through the urine, instead of increasing insulin production or sensitivity like other oral therapies for Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Other members of the class include Jardiance and Invokana.

By inhibiting the SGLT2 channel in the kidney tubules, these medications increase urinary glucose and consequently increase urine output. This mechanism likely explains why Farxiga can have beneficial effects on kidney function in the long term and prove helpful in eliminating excess fluid volume in the body. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration indications for Farxiga include treatment of certain chronic kidney disease and congestive heart failure patients, in addition to treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus. The drugs mechanism of action is also tied to a list of noteworthy possible side effects, which this article will review in detail.

There Are Three General Things You Can Do To Help Prevent Yeast Infections:

    1. Change what you wear

A lot of the comfort clothes we love so much may be a part of the problem. Synthetic materials found in yoga pants, leggings, and other workout clothes often allow for limited airflow, and can trap in moisture. This can cause the infection to grow. Try to avoid tight clothing such as tights, leggings, or even tight jeans if this is a recurring issue. Instead of sitting around in sweaty workout clothes or wearing tight pants, look for clothing made from natural fibers such as cotton, which allows your body to breathe. At night time, sleep in a flowing nightgownwithout any underwear!

    2. Balance out your diet

One reason you may be experiencing continual yeast infections could be your diet. Eating a lot of sugar-heavy foods can actually act as fuel for yeast infections, since yeast feeds off of sugar. Try to limit sugar-high foods or foods that contain yeast, such as breads or some alcoholic drinks . Instead, eating a balanced diet of including many fruits and veggies can help your body find a natural balance.

    3. Monitor your hygiene practices

A lot of this can come down to how youre cleaning yourself down there. Some women are simply more prone to yeast infections than others, so it may not be that youre unhygienic as much as it is that your body requires extra care.

    Ketoacidosis And Urinary Tract Infections

In 2015, the FDA released a Drug Safety Communication warning about the risk of ketoacidosis also called diabetic ketoacidosis and serious urinary tract infections . The agency required drug companies to add warnings to SGLT2 medication labels.

Normally, the FDA advises against stopping medications. However, the agency said in its communication that patients should stop taking their SGLT2 immediately and seek medical attention if they suffer symptoms of ketoacidosis, including trouble breathing, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and tiredness.

People who think they may have a urinary tract infection dont need to stop taking their medication immediately but should talk to their doctors right away.

At the time, the agency released the warning for ketoacidosis after it identified 73 cases in FAERS from March 2013 to May 2015. All patients required hospitalization or emergency department visits. Those numbers have since increased. From 2013 to Sept. 30, 2018, there were 4,777 cases in FAERS involving the four main SGLT2 drugs. Of those, 4,716 were serious. The majority of the people ended up in the hospital.

In the same communication, the FDA warned about the risk of urinary tract infections that could turn into life-threatening blood infections and kidney infections . The agency identified 19 cases of blood and kidney infections that began as urinary tract infections.

Diabetes Treatment And Complications The Nurses Role

But its possible that diabetes can cause hair loss. This is due having too much sugar in your blood, which can cause damage to the blood supply that nourishes your hair.

If you experience bothersome hair loss while taking Farxiga, talk with your doctor. They can help determine whats causing the hair loss and the best way to treat it.
