The Antibacterial And Antifungal Activity Of Acv Against E Coli S Aureus And C Albicans
In order to determine the anti-microbial activity of ACV, E. coli, S. aureus and C. albicans were directly cultured with different concentrations of ACV. Figure represents the experimental results. The minimum dose required to restrict growth for C. albicans was neat, undiluted ACV , for S. aureus it was a 1/2 dilution and for E-coli, growth was restricted at a significantly lower dilution of 1/50 . We also measured the equivalent zones of inhibition for each of the microbes at varying dilutions of ACV which is depicted in the photographs of the culture plates . To translate the MIC into supplementary tablet dosages required, we tested concentration ranges from 400µg/ml in doubling microdilutions to the lowest of 3.1µg/ml against each microbe. The MIC for ACV tablets at which no growth was visible was 62µg/ml for E. coli 125µg/ml for S. aureus and 250µg/ml for C. albicans respectively. Both sets of results were also confirmed further by microdilution. We used the Braggs ACV for all future experiments at the minimum inhibitory dilution required for each organism.
Figure 1
Effect of varying concentrations of ACV on microbial growth after incubation at 37°C for 24h. S. aureus C. albicans, E-coli E-coli. ACV was either applied neat or diluted 1:2 or 1:10v/v in distilled water. Zones of microbial growth inhibition are indicated by clear zones and vary with ACV dilutions for each microbe. Photographs were taken using a 20 Mega pixel Samsung camera.

Is Apple Cider Vinegar Safe To Drink
Apple cider vinegar is safe to drink in small amounts, though drinking apple cider vinegar is not likely to cure a UTI or other urinary tract problems.
Most experts recommend diluting no more than 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in water before drinking. Thats because apple cider vinegar is a strong acid and could irritate the throat if consumed frequently or in large amounts, notes the Mayo Clinic. Drinking undiluted apple cider vinegar may erode tooth enamel, the hard outer surface that protects teeth from decay, warns the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.
Vinegar also may interact with certain medicines, including diuretics, laxatives, or insulin. Its best to check with a doctor before drinking apple cider vinegar for a UTI.

Causes Of Recurring Yeast Infections
Some women are more susceptible to yeast infections than others and will have recurring yeast infections or chronic yeast infections. There are a few possible reasons someone may deal with recurrent yeast infections:
- Sexual activity. While yeast infections are not a sexually transmitted infection , it is possible in some cases for partners to pass the Candida to each other. To prevent this, use condoms or dental dams and practice good hygiene after sexual intercourse, such as showering. Avoid having intercourse when one partner has a yeast infection.
- The original yeast infection was not completely treated or the yeast infection is caused by a drug-resistant strain. Symptoms may disappear before the infection is fully treated. When this happens, the yeast infection will come back. There are also strains of yeast that are more drug-resistant, which makes it harder to get rid of than others.
- It is not a yeast infection. There are other infections, such as bacterial vaginosis, or STIs, that may have similar symptoms. This is one of the most important reasons for visiting a doctor, such as a gynecologist or primary care physician, when a yeast infection does not clear up, or when youre not sure that what youre dealing with is a yeast infection.
- Those with certain conditions, such as impaired immune systems, pregnancy, or uncontrolled diabetes, are more susceptible to yeast infections.
Is Apple Cider Vinegar Safe For Dogs

Overall, apple cider vinegar is fine for dogs. But there are some ways to make sure its safe.
The first is that you should look for raw, organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Organic ACV will allow you to avoid pesticides and other toxic chemicals used in commercial farming.
And a raw product means its not pasteurized. Pasteurization kills off the living enzymes in the ACV. Your dog needs those live enzymes to reap the health benefits of apple cider vinegar.
The main difference youll see between raw and pasteurized ACV is the mother. The mother is the bacteria and yeast used to ferment the apple cider into vinegar. The mother will make the ACV cloudy. Or you might see a blob at the bottom of the bottle that looks kind of like a spider web.
Shake the bottle before use. Now youre ready to go!

Relieve Sunburns And Bug Bites
I can vouch for this one personally! If you suffer from a sunburn or insect bite, Apple Cider Vinegar can help alleviate the pain. For sunburns, apply ACV and water with a cotton cloth or washcloth directly to the skin to cool and relieve pain. You can also soak in a bath of warm water with 1 cup ACV. For bug bites, apply a 50/50 mixture directly to the bite, or soak the area in vinegar water.
Upregulation Of Phagocytic Capacity
We also investigated whether ACV could have an effect on the phagocytic function of monocytes alone and also after a 4h exposure to microbes with or without ACV treatment. A 14.2, 13.7 and 20.4% increase in monocyte phagocytic capacity was observed after E. coli, S. aureus and C. albicans co-culture with ACV respectively and in comparison to the resting unstimulated monocytes. Results are expressed as the mean and SD of 3 similar experiments . This suggests that ACV can increase phagocytic potential in monocytes which is significant as microbial phagocytosis is a key effector function of innate immunity.

How Much Apple Cider Vinegar Should I Give My Dog
Dont give your dog undiluted ACV. Always mix it into her water or food. Give the following daily amount depending on the size of your dog:
- 1 tsp for dogs up to 15 lbs
- 2 tsp for dogs 16 to 35 lbs
- 1 tbsp for dogs 36 to 84 lbs
NOTE: When you use apple cider vinegar internally or topically, remember to monitor your dog for any adverse reactions. Dogs who are sensitive to ACV may vomit or get itchy skin.
Apple Cider Vinegar Vs A Yeast Infection
Birds already have fungi in their bodies. Yeast infections develop when the fungi in the birds body overgrow.
A yeast infection is a very fast-moving infection that usually develops in the birds crop, treatment is needed as soon as you realize that your bird has it
Yeast infections do not survive, or grow well, in areas that are too acidic, giving your bird apple cider vinegar to drink will make the birds crop more acidic.
An acidic crop will prevent a yeast infection from developing and will kill off any existing yeast infections in the birds body by breaking down the yeast on the crop walls.
The yeast will then be flushed out with the apple cider vinegar so it cant attach to any other parts of the bird

Is It Safe To Drink
While its safe to consume ACV in small amounts, drinking straight ACV can damage your throat and cause tooth enamel erosion. Clinical reports of people burning their throats on ACV are extremely rare, but it is a potential risk.
If you decide to drink ACV, use a straw and rinse your mouth with water afterward to help limit potential tooth enamel damage.
You can also dilute ACV in water, which makes it much easier on your throat and teeth. Mix 12 tablespoons of ACV in 8 ounces of water to make a dilute ACV solution. Remember that since the acidity of ACV is responsible for many of its benefits, dont mix it with anything that could neutralize the acid and make it less effective.
How Does Apple Cider Vinegar Help Yeast Infection
You may develop a yeast infection when your immune system is weak or there is an imbalance in your body pH levels. That is when ACV can help.
- It contains several enzymes, nutrients, and friendly bacteria to help control candida growth and restore your body’s pH levels. Keep in mind that ACV is acidic but it has an alkaline effect when metabolized by your body.
- It helps increase the number of good bacteria in your gut, which in turn will improve your immunity. A stronger immune system can handle yeast infections in a much better way.
- It can help control blood sugar levels. Some studies show that diabetics are more likely to experience yeast infections because of high blood sugar levels, but ACV can help by controlling insulin and glucose responses in the body.
- It contains malic acid and also has antibiotic properties, which is why regular consumption may help clear yeast infections.

How Apple Cider Vinegar Affects Yeast
ACV contains acetic acid, which inhibits yeast growth. In other words, it may help prevent or treat candidiasis.
Additionally, acidity is thought to disrupt the cell membranes of yeast cells, causing them to die. It also contains enzymes that may help to break down Candida, as well as other types of fungi.
Moreover, research suggests that ACV may act as an antimicrobial agent, which could help fight off infections. Overall, these findings suggest that it may be effective in treating or preventing candidiasis. However, further investigation is needed to confirm these effects.
You Have To Make Sure
Because apple cider vinegar is acidic, using it topically on your vulva may actually make symptoms worse by irritating the area further, gynecologists warn.
And if you do self-treat a yeast infection with apple cider vinegar, one harmful aspect comes from the potential delay that treating a presumed case of yeast with apple cider vinegar can create. While for the vast majority of people, this is not going to pose a health risk, anyone who has ever had some form of vulvovaginitis can tell you that quality of life is diminished substantially for the duration of symptoms.
That’s because what you think is a yeast infection might not actually be a yeast infection. Almost half the time that women think they have yeast infections, they dont, doctors warn. So you have to be sure you really have one.
You can take antifungal medication which you can get over the counter or prescribed by a doctor. They might come in the form of cream suppositories and oral treatments.
If after a few days of using an antifungal, youre still experiencing symptoms, you might actually have an STI or bacterial vaginosis, in which case you should go to a doctor for a diagnosis and proper treatment.
Yeast infections share many of the same symptoms as more serious conditions. Sexually transmitted infections and bacterial vaginosis are often mistaken for yeast infections. Left untreated, these conditions can put you at risk of serious complications and increase your vulnerability to other STIs.

What Is The Fastest Way To Cure A Uti Naturally
Theres no guaranteed way to cure a UTI quickly or naturally and youll likely need antibiotics. But, you may be able to find relief from some symptoms with home remedies, including:
- Drink plenty of liquids to flush out bacteria. Aim for at least one extra liter on top of your usual fluid intake.
- Try eating cranberries or drinking cranberry juice. Although overall research is inconclusive, some small studies suggest that cranberries may help UTIs and reduce your chances of an infection.
- Wear loose-fitting clothing made of natural fibers. Synthetic or tight-fitting clothing may trap moisture and allow bacteria to grow.
- Take a probiotic supplement and consider taking it long-term to prevent future infections.
What Makes Apple Cider Vinegar Effective For Yeast Infections
Apple cider vinegar contains many enzymes and prebiotics that can help to boost your health in general. However, its the levels of acetic acid along with these enzymes that give apple cider vinegar its healing qualities.
According to the journal Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, acetic acid is the main ingredient in apple cider vinegar. During the fermentation process, ACV develops antibacterial and prebiotic properties. It also has antioxidant properties as well as an antifungal activity. The researchers concluded that ACV is an effective natural treatment for many ailments.1
Research into the healing antifungal properties of acetic acid has shown that it is effective against many strains of yeast. For example, the journal Acts Microbiologica Bulgarica reported that acetic acid can suppress the growth of many strains of fungus.2
Among the fungus strains that apple cider vinegar is effective against is Candida albicans. The Journal of Prosthodontics reported that apple cider vinegar can help kill off candida yeast infections. The study concluded that apple cider vinegar has powerful antifungal properties and can be used as a therapeutic alternative for treating yeast infections.3
Yeast infections are also more common in people with diabetes, as high sugar levels cause better conditions for the yeast to grow. A study conducted on female rats found out that high sugar level caused by diabetes was favorable to infection caused by candida albicans. 10
