Causes And Risk Factors Of Candidal Balanitis Or Penile Yeast Infection
Unlike with vaginal yeast infections, penile yeast infections are usually sexually acquired when a man has sex with someone who has a yeast infection.
But candidal balanitis isn’t considered a sexually transmitted disease because men can get the infection without having sex.
There are several risk factors that increase a man’s risk of getting a penile yeast infection, including:
- Antibiotics, which kill the “good” bacteria that keep Candida‘s numbers in check
- Immune-suppressing illnesses, particularly HIV
Can Cephalexin Cause Vaginal
Yeast infections are caused by the fungus Candida albicans. This fungus lives naturally in our bodies and normally doesnt cause any problems. However, if we take certain medications such as antibiotics, birth control pills, steroids, antifungal drugs, and antihistamines, these can weaken our immune system making us susceptible to fungal infections. Antibiotics kill off the good bacteria in our body, allowing the bad bacteria to multiply and cause infection.
Antibiotics Dont Help If Your Skin Is Not Infected
Eczema causes red, itchy, and scaly skin. People with eczema often have high amounts of bacteria on their skin. But that doesnt mean that the germs are causing infection. Even so, some doctors treat eczema with antibiotics that you take by mouth to kill the germs.
Antibiotics also dont help your itching or redness. And they dont make your eczema less severe. Plus, your skin bacteria usually come back in a month or two, if not sooner.
You can control eczema better with lotions and other steps. To ease itching and swelling, ask your doctor about other treatments, such as creams and ointments that contain medicine. You can get them with or without a prescription.

You should start to feel better within a few days of taking cephalexin. Let your physician know if you don’t feel better after two to three days of using cephalexin or if you feel worse at any time. It’s important to keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor tells you to, even if your symptoms improve.
Cephalexin Could Promote Yeast Infection
Beneficial bacteria Lactobacilli are present in healthy vaginas and help to maintain an acidic pH that deters pathogens and yeast.
Like any other antibiotic, taking full dose Cephalexin regularly can deplete your good bacteria and yeast infection may be a side effect.
Unfortunately, once your good bacteria are depleted, you are not only more likely to get a yeast infection but also more vulnerable to infection from your own E. coli. This, in turn, could lead to recurrent UTIs.

Causes Of Bacterial & Fungal Skin Infections In Dogs
Many bacteria and fungi live on the skin but are controlled by the immune system and do not cause issues under normal circumstances. But, if skin conditions change or the immune system becomes suppressed, bacterial and fungal infections can result.
Immune deficiencies or an increase in the amount of oils produced on the skin are common causes of yeast infections. While yeast infections are not contagious, they will often recur unless the underlying skin condition or allergy is addressed.
Certain breeds may be genetically predisposed to yeast infections, such as the Lhasa Apso, Poodle, Dachshund, Shetland Sheepdog, West Highland White Terrier, Maltese Terrier, Cocker Spaniel, Basset hound, Australian Terrier, Silky Terrier, and Chihuahua.
When it comes to staph infections, skin can become irritated when a dog excessively scratches, chews or licks. If your dog has an allergy to medications, food or environmental factors, or fleas, you may start to notice these behaviors.
Some chronic debilitating diseases, allergies, fungal infections of the blood and other secondary infections may cause staph infections. Any age or breed of dog can be afflicted, but older dogs are more susceptible due to their weakened immune systems.
Will Yeast Infection Go Away On Its Own

Yeast infections are a common problem that can be difficult to treat. Many people try to self-treat with over the counter remedies, but this rarely works. If you have a yeast infection, your doctor may recommend taking an over the counter antifungal remedy or using prescription medication. However, these treatments often do not work on their own and require regular use. If you do not want to go to the doctor, there are some things you can do on your own to try and get rid of a yeast infection.
Some people try to kill the yeast by taking ibuprofen or other pain relievers for several days as well as drinking lots of fluids. Others take over the counter antifungals like clotrimazole or miconazole . These medications work by stopping the growth of the fungus.

Swelling And Redness In Your Lower Legs May Not Require Treatment With Antibiotics
If one or both of your lower legs are swollen and red, visit your doctor to find out why. In most cases, if both of your lower legs are swollen and red at the same time, its not because of an infection. That means you dont need antibiotics.
There are many other reasons why your lower legs could be swollen and red. For instance, you could have varicose veins or a blood clot in your leg. You could have an allergy to something you touched, such as a detergent or soap. Leg swelling could even be a sign of heart disease.
Before prescribing an antibiotic, your doctor should talk to you and do any tests needed to rule out these problems. Even then, you should take antibiotics only if theres a clear sign of an infection like cellulitis. Thats a common skin infection that causes redness and swelling.
When Should I See My Doctor
Speak to your doctor if you:
- experience side effects that trouble you
- have signs of an allergic reaction
- have a health condition or are taking medication that may affect how your body reacts to cefalexin
- become pregnant or start breastfeeding
See the CMI for full details about when to speak with your doctor before or after you have started taking cefalexin.

This is old but so many people gave wrong information I felt like I had to respond. Flagyl is the #1 treatment for BV . Followed by Clindamycin. I think the confusion came about because Metronidazole is an antibiotic and miconazole is an antifungal. Flagyl absolutely IS AN ANTIBIOTIC. It is an antibiotic that used to treat anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites. I’ve used Flagyl several times during pregnancy for BV. As for the original question keflex may treat BV but its not as likely to. Its more used for UTIs. Each antibiotic has certain things its best at treating. And for BV Flagyl is the best antibiotic for it.

- Douching removes healthy bacteria.
- Avoid vaginal deodorant products. This includes sprays, powders, and scented pads and tampons.
